ABOUT
Comedy Nuggets is an independent comedy production company founded in Toronto in 2017 by Toronto comedian Luke Lynndale. What started with a 40-seat show at the Social Capital Theatre has grown into hundreds of live stand-up comedy shows featuring some of Canada’s best comedians.
How It Started
Comedy Nuggets began in November 2017 with a pay-what-you-can show at the Social Capital Theatre. Seven comedians performed seven-minute sets, followed by a headliner. The room held about 40 people, most of them family and friends.
The show became a monthly event, and Comedy Nuggets was born.
The early years were about experimenting and figuring out what made a great live comedy experience. We created Double Take, which put two comedians on stage together performing their sets either simultaneously or by taking turns. We produced Luke Lynndale Does Your Jokes, where comedians performed their sets and Luke Lynndale followed by attempting to perform the same material himself. And we even produced a show where comedians attempted to perform while being pied in the face by a clown.
Some ideas lasted. Some absolutely did not. But every show taught us something.
Building Better Comedy Shows
In 2018, Comedy Nuggets began producing professional ticketed stand-up comedy shows built around experienced comedians and strong lineups.
In 2019, we launched a monthly show at Comedy Bar that would run for five years. That same year, we created the Best Damn Stand-Up Comedy Show, built around a simple idea: put three headliners on one show and give audiences a great night of stand-up.
By early 2020, we were producing four shows every month. When the pandemic shut down the physical world, Comedy Nuggets moved online and produced shows featuring comedians from Canada and around the world.
When the physical world reopened, we got back to what we do best: putting comedians in front of audiences.
Growing
Comedy Nuggets expanded its Toronto comedy shows to venues throughout the city, including Comedy Bar, Comedy Bar Danforth, The Second City, The Rivoli, Free Times Cafe, and SoCap Comedy.
In 2023, we launched the Danforth Comedy Festival, bringing multiple stand-up comedy shows to venues along Toronto’s Danforth. The festival ran for three years, from 2023 through 2025.
In 2024, we took Comedy Nuggets on the road with a short Canadian tour, producing stand-up comedy shows in Calgary, Regina, Edmonton, and Ottawa.
In 2025, we established regular professional stand-up comedy shows at Volt Raceway in Bowmanville and Stonehooker Brewery in Mississauga, bringing the Comedy Nuggets approach to audiences beyond Toronto.
Through it all, the goal has stayed simple:
Put great comedians on stage and give audiences a guaranteed good night out.
